Bibra Lake has a strong environmental education history especially in the early years. We believe in modelling good environmental practices with the children and teaching how individuals can make a difference. Many children are anxious about the degrading environment due to the press – by doing something about it we believe it empowers the children and makes them better learners in general.
We are a Waterwise school and have a “Scope and Sequence” for teachers to use in their classroom. Using Community Water Grants and Retrofit grants we have significantly reduced the water consumption of our school. Children are using the Waterwise curriculum material to further reduce consumption at home.
To encourage children to feel the link between the land and modern life we have a vegetable garden which four classes used this year. Several classes have earthworm farms and recycling projects.
We regularly use the Cockburn Wetlands Education Centre and do tree plantings for the City of Cockburn.
