New Agreement Between CAPS School , and NARA Inc
-a new dawn in environmental education
The Christian Aboriginal Parent-directed School (CAPS) Coolgardie, a FOTE partner, has recently signed a land access agreement with the Nature and Agriculture Rehabilitation Association Inc (NARA) which formalizes a long-standing relationship where students of the school (K-12) have accessed the 773ha NARA property near Coolgardie. Up until recently most access has been with the school's DEC Bushranger unit but other class groups have used the site including a week-long writer in residence programme focused on creative writing based in the genius loci (spirit of the place) of NARA
The school's DEC Bushranger Unit has carried out many projects at NARA over the last 5 years including : building and placing nesting boxes, cleaning wildlife enclosures, making and distributing seedballs, planting and seeding areas of regeneration, and watering.
Both parties to the formalized agreement hope that the future for closer ties will see the student's lives and the environment enhanced with the potential for an outdoor classroom something other schools may benefit from.
