Balljura Community College Students Become Kimberley Toad Busters In Perth

On 2 February 2009, following an invitation from committed and enthusiastic teacher, Ballajura Community College's Mark Arrantash, Sandy Boulter from the Kimberley Toad Busters gave a cane toad presentation to Mark's Design and Technology Class.

Mark had previously discussed the possibility of making traps in class with Dean Goodgame from the Kimberley Toad Busters. The students then undertook a study of the cane toad issue in Australia.

Students:

  • submitted their design on graph paper to ensure best and most efficient use of donated wire;
  • made traps;
  • packed up traps;
  • delivered traps to Nexus freight service

These traps are so well designed and built that they will be used in the field at the cane toad battle out at the north east corner of Lake Argyle, to help save these precious Ramsar wetlands from the cane toad.

We look forward to ongoing support from Ballajura for this trap building, and Ballajura are looking for donations of wire to the school for next year's class.
