Kalamunda - A Town in Transition

Dear resident of the Kalamunda area,

If you have an interest in sustainability and community spirit, The Kalamunda Chamber of Commerce in partnership with FOTE Inc (Friends Of The Environment) and other associated interested organisations and individuals, as well as advocate Peter Kenyon, ask you to ponder your reason for coming to live in the" Home in the Forest". Is it the pride of place, tranquillity or serenity that the hills offer?

Then come and join a growing movement to build pride of place and community spirit in all areas addressing sustainability. We invite you to have your say and contribute to this young movement to build our communities sustainability.

Back ground
The Transition Community concept was founded in Ireland, and is now in over 100 countries with 60 models in the Eastern states. The first WA model is in the process of being set up in the Kalamunda and surrounding area with plans for the concept to then be rolled out across WA. We have a small local team looking to run the process, though behind that there is a much larger group of people offering support.

Transitional Community is made up of the community coming together for the common good for the people by the people.

Our first task is to promote the program to the community and we will shortly be organizing a public forum. Come and have a listen to community consultant and local resident, Peter Kenyon. He will explain the nuts and bolts of Transitional Communities. The forum will be outcome focused and we seek your support for this move.

The meeting will be posted on the FOTE website keep a look out for more news on this topic www.fote.org.au. FOTE Inc is a not for profit incorporated organization focused on sustainability. Some of our partners are schools and community gardens in the area and beyond.
